Dohuk is also spelt Duhok and it's a cool town in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. It's a place that is really worth checking out when you backpack through this region. It's turning into a nice place to travel in so here's an overview on top 5 things to see and do in the city.
My top 5 things to do in Dohuk
1. The Promenade at The Corniche
Running long and windingly through the city, and right out to Dohuk Dam, this trendy and smart looking promenade makes a fresh and relaxing walk. Students hang around to study, old men chat, kids mess around and the big city carries on regardless up above. I ended up walking almost the whole way along it. That was probably too much - it needs a bit of work done to it, but it's pleasant enough.
2. Dohuk Dam and Dohuk Valley
In and around Dohuk there is a quality dam to check out. It sits on the edge of town and has valleys around it which is amazing. You should head out there and check this epic place out for sure!
The views are simply stunning and really worth it.
3. The Dohuk Waterfall
Dohuk has a few false waterfalls which have been added to the walk away from the city round to Dohuk dam. These are nice to look at and add to the effects of the city but ultimately they are fake!
4. Dohuk Bazaar
Every town or city in this region seems to have a market, known normally as a Bazaar. Dohuk of course also has one which is very big and has lots of nooks and crannies to it. Really worth a look around to do shopping in.
5. The Dohuk Art Gallery
The art gallery in Dohuk is worth a look to get a glimpse of real Kurdish and Iraqi art. Wander in for free and have a walk round at your own leisure and you will love it.
So all in all Dohuk is a marvellous town to go backpacking in. It's clear that there is a lot to see and do in this charming Kurdish town in the northern part of Iraq. Safe travels.
